The shaman’s drum clearly is an instrument to bring forth a special trance, based on a mind empty of thoughts. In such an empty state, all shaman’s from the past, present and future can connect with the source of all creativity.

Also the reverse is true. By sitting and starting drumming in a monotonous way, you can slowly enter the no-though state. It is this state which supports the transpersonal wisdom, every-one has access to. You can access the transpersonal realm however, only when empty. That is why meditation on Shunyata, emptiness, is such an important tool for the shaman’s way.
