The writer (Shunyam Adhibhu) has visited Bhutan for several weeks, to study the impact of the enlightened master Drukpa Kunley on the culture. Everywhere in Bhutan I found these amazing erections of the Buddha on doors and next to windows.
This amazing Buddha, Drukpa Kunley is said to use sexual activity as a tool for awakening. He must have been the father of modern tantric bodywork. More than 500 years ago Drukpa Kunley traveled from one place to another in Tibet and the Himalaya and was influenced by a number of enlightened masters. He is considered a ‘mad yogi’, which at that time in Tibet was not that strange.
One of the leading living Tibetan masters (Dugu Chogyal Rimpoche) refers to Drukpa as an: ” awakened Buddha, a Master of Mahamudra and Dzokchen.”
Developing Tantric Breath and Bodywork in the ALgarve
I have been developing tantric breath and bodywork according to Drukpa’s method, and in the sessions we create in our geodesic dome in the Algarve, we use the primal life force as a tool for awakening in the moment. To totally be it, and watch the happening of the bodymind in this tantric space. It is said:
Emotion, particularly desire, is not to be suppressed; it is to be purified. And then free of selfish motivation, in fulfilment of the SAMAYA (the pledge to sustain Ultimate Awareness), it is to be used to bring dis-illusionment, awareness, and delight, to all beings.
This is the essence of our approach in our Tantric Temple in the Algarve, in the Geodesic Dome.
