Profound Black Mirror Meditation: The Gateway to the Imaginal Realm

Raul uses the Black Mirror in the most optimal way during daylight, looking unfocussed in between his own eyes.

One of the most impressive and transformative meditations you can do with a black mirror is the Gateway to the Imaginal Realm meditation. This practice goes beyond simple scrying and takes you into deep visionary states, aligning with the ancient concept of Nâ Kojâ Abâd; the intermediary world between the physical and spiritual dimensions. You can also experiment with this meditation using a low dose of Cannabis (or a high dose, that will enhance the surprises!).

Preparation: Creating the Sacred Space

  1. Dim the Lights – Use candlelight or soft indirect lighting to create an immersive, timeless space.
  2. Position the Black Mirror – Place it at eye level, so you can gaze comfortably without strain.
  3. Set an Intention – Whether it’s to explore past lives, connect with an inner guide, or receive wisdom from the imaginal realm, clarity of purpose strengthens the experience.
  4. Ground Yourself – Sit comfortably with a straight spine, hands resting on your lap. Take slow, deep breaths to enter a calm state.
  5. Fix Your Gaze – Keep your eyes on the space between your reflection’s eyes, avoiding direct focus on any single detail.

Phase 1: Entering the Luminous Threshold

  1. Breathe deeply and soften your vision – Let your gaze become unfocused, allowing the mirror’s surface to “soften” and deepen.
  2. Invoke the Inner Light – After a few minutes, close your eyes briefly and observe the natural phosphenes (light patterns behind closed eyelids). When you open your eyes again, project this inner light into the mirror.
  3. Sense the Shift – After 10-15 minutes, you may notice subtle changes—shifting hues, mist-like formations, or flickering shadows around your reflection. This signals the opening of the imaginal field.

Phase 2: The Dissolution of the Self-Image

  1. The Face Begins to Shift – Your reflection may start to morph, becoming older, younger, or even taking on different identities. Allow these changes to unfold without resistance.
  2. Past and Future Selves – Some practitioners report seeing faces from previous incarnations, symbolic archetypes, or future versions of themselves.
  3. The Vortex Effect – The space around your reflection may begin to pulsate or expand, as if the mirror is opening into another realm. This is the moment to trust and surrender to the experience.

Phase 3: Entering the Imaginal Realm

  1. Stepping Beyond the Mirror – At a certain point, the depth of the black mirror may feel like a doorway rather than a surface. You may experience a sensation of being drawn inward, like passing through a veil.
  2. Encountering Entities or Guides – The imaginal realm is often populated by archetypal figures, spirits, or luminous beings. If you see a presence, acknowledge it silently and remain receptive to any insights.
  3. The Message of the Mirror – Rather than seeking to control the vision, allow the experience to unfold. Words, symbols, or entire dream-like sequences may emerge. Trust in what is shown!!!

Phase 4: Returning with Gnosis

  1. Slowly Blink and Breathe – Gently bring your awareness back to the room while keeping your gaze soft.
  2. Close Your Eyes and Integrate – Before looking away from the mirror, close your eyes and mentally absorb the imagery and sensations.
  3. Journal the Experience – Immediately record symbols, feelings, or messages. Insights may continue to unfold in the hours or even days after the meditation. Make sketches of the symbols you saw. As a inspirational source for how to enter the realm of the non-ordinary I advice to read Jung’s red book.

Why This Meditation is So Powerful

  • It transforms the black mirror into a portal rather than just a reflective surface.
  • It allows access to the imaginal world, where mystical knowledge and spiritual truths reside.
  • It dissolves the everyday sense of self, allowing deeper parts of the psyche to reveal themselves.
  • It can lead to meaningful encounters with guides, ancestors, or aspects of higher consciousness.

This is not just a practice of scrying: it is a spiritual journey into the depths of consciousness, bridging the physical and non-physical worlds. Approach it with reverence, and it may reveal profound insights beyond what the ordinary mind can grasp. Shunyam Adhibhu

At our meditation space, the black mirror is a natural meditation and revelation element we use frequently.
